Freiman was born in 1926 in Jeziorna, a village near Warsaw, Poland and grew up in a close extended family.
Freiman’s parents Josef and Elka had a business selling supplies for cobblers. He had a brother, who was four years younger than him, Haim, and two sisters, Hana and Jadzia. He had no pictures of them and their memory lived on only in his mind. His entire family was killed in the Holocaust.
