After the German invasion of Italy transit camps were set up where Jews and political prisoners were held prior to deportation.

The two members of the Boys born in Italy, Andra and Liliana Bucci, were taken to the Risiera San Sabbia prison in Trieste with their family before they were deported to Auschwitz.
